The recursive writing process has helped me tremendously to write papers in a more comprehensive way. I have had to learn how to just get something on the paper and then develop it from there until it becomes something polished and professional. I have learned important brainstorming strategies like free writing and following the thread. Free writing is a great way to just get some ideas down. Following the thread is the best way, in my opinion, to get to the end of a train of thought. I believe that getting to the end of a train of thought is essential to get to your actual position on something. I write more about this here. The recursive writing process has also taught me to be able to create a draft outline, which I can merge with my brainstorming to create a first draft, even if it isn’t very good. At this point of the papers development, I can use revision strategies such as global edits, reading out loud, and peer reviewing. I plan to use all of the mentioned methods within any educational paper that I write from now on because I believe that they are crucial to write well.
